Santiago Giménez, the world’s youngest professional football player in 2018, is one of many success stories that the FIFA U-17 World Cup fosters on a yearly basis.
The Argentine made his debut for his country at the age of 16 years and nine months in a friendly against Mexico on 4 September 2018. He replaced Lionel Messi in the 77th minute, making him the fourth youngest player to represent Argentina.

Giménez waslater called up to Argentina’s U-17 squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru, where he started all seven matches as the Albiceleste won the tournament.

At club level, Giménez plays for River Plate, who he joined at the age of 11. He made his first team debut in March 2019, aged 17 years and four months, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-1 win over Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa in the Copa Libertadores.
