Not only am I going to talk about the differences between living in San Diego and living in Palm Springs, which are big enough that a person who moves from one to the other would undoubtedly have a different takeaway about it, but I also want to explain why I love visiting certain places. So today, I’m prepared to take you on my absolute favorite road trip — San Diego all the way til it meets up with Palm Springs
Scenic Route
The first leg of my favorite road trip starts in San Diego, where I grew up. I always loved exploring new places, and there’s no better way to see the California coast than by car. The drive from San Diego to Palm Springs is about three hours, and it takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery in the state.
The first few minutes of the drive are always a little hectic as I make my way out of the city. But as soon as I hit the freeway, I can relax and enjoy the ride. The first thing I notice is the change in landscape; palm trees and desert mountains replace the buildings and concrete. And even though it’s only a couple hours drive, it feels like I’m a world away from home.
I always take the scenic route when I’m driving to Palm Springs, which means taking highways 74 and 111 instead of the interstate. Highway 74 winds through some of southern California’s best-kept secrets: small towns like Idyllwild and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. And highway 111 takes you right into downtown Palm Springs.
The drive is beautiful any time of year, but my favorite time to go is in springtime when all of the wildflowers are in bloom. It’s impossible not to feel happy when you’re surrounded by so much color. But even if you don’t make it during wild
Drive Spotting
I love going on road trips and one of my all-time favorites is the drive from San Diego to Palm Springs. I love the scenery and there are so many things to see along the way.
One of my favorite things to do is to spot different cars on the road. I love seeing what kind of cars people are driving and where they’re from. I’ve spotted some really cool cars on this drive, including a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, and even a Rolls-Royce.
Another thing I love about this drive is the scenery. The desert landscape is just beautiful and it’s so peaceful out there. I always make sure to stop at least once to take some photos and just soak in the beauty of it all.

Fast Food on the Road
If you’re anything like me, then you love road trips. And if you’re anything like me, then you also love food. So what’s the best way to combine those two loves? By making sure you’re well-fed on your road trip, of course!
And what’s the best way to do that? By packing some delicious fast food, of course! In my opinion, there’s nothing better than snacking on some yummy junk food while taking in the beautiful scenery.
So if you’re planning a road trip soon, make sure to stock up on your favorite fast foods. Trust me, it’ll make the trip that much more enjoyable!
Gas Stops
One of the best things about road tripping is making spontaneous stops along the way. My favorite type of stop is a gas station. I love talking to the locals, finding out about the best places to eat and visit, and of course, using the restroom after being in the car for hours on end.
There are some great gas stations between San Diego and Palm Springs. Here are a few of my favorites:
- The Chevron on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles – This gas station is right in the heart of Hollywood and has been featured in several movies and TV shows. It’s always busy and there’s always something going on.
- The Shell on El Camino Real in San Diego – This gas station is right next to Balboa Park, one of my favorite places in San Diego. It’s always clean and the staff is friendly.
- The Arco on Main Street in Palm Desert – This gas station is right in the middle of all the action in Palm Desert. It’s close to shopping, restaurants, and other attractions.
- The 76 on Highway 111 in Indio – This gas station is a great place to stop if you’re headed to Coachella or Stagecoach music festivals. It’s close to the festival grounds and has everything you need (including showers!)
Camping Gear Integrations
There are plenty of gear items that you can bring on a road trip to make your experience more enjoyable. From tents and sleeping bags to portable stoves and coolers, there are plenty of ways to integrate camping gear into your road trip.
Here are a few of my favorite camping gear integrations for a road trip:
Tents and Sleeping Bags: Tents and sleeping bags are essential for any camping trip. When choosing a tent, be sure o pick one that is lightweight and easy to set up. I also recommend bringing along a sleeping bag that is comfortable and will keep you warm at night.
Portable Stove: A portable stove is a great way to cook meals while on the road. There are many different types of portable stoves available, so be sure to choose one that best suits your needs. I prefer a stove that is easy to set up and use, as well as one that doesn’t take up too much space.
Cooler: A cooler is another essential item for any road trip. It’s important to choose a cooler that is large enough to hold all of your food and drinks, but not so large that it takes up too much space in your car. I also recommend choosing a cooler with wheels for easy transportation.
Recreation
I grew up in Southern California, and Palm Springs was always a popular weekend getaway for my family and friends. The drive from San Diego to Palm Springs is about two hours, and it is a beautiful drive through the mountains and desert.
Once you arrive in Palm Springs, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy. You can visit the many art galleries and shops in Downtown Palm Springs, go for a hike in one of the nearby canyons, or just relax by the pool. There are also several great restaurants to try while you’re in town.
If you’re looking for a fun weekend getaway, I would definitely recommend taking a road trip to Palm Springs. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the sunny weather.
