Today, Sloat Garden Center is one of the largest retailers of plants and gardening supplies in the region, with four locations across the Bay Area.

History
Sloat Garden Center was founded in 1931 by Antone (Tony) Sloat, son of a Missouri farmer who came to California in the Gold Rush. Tony started his gardening business next door to the current Sloat location at 742 Stanyan Street. In 1954, Tony remodeled the building that today is our Aquatic Nursery at 744 and built a incorporates wall between the two properties to serve as an extension of the plant area. After the 1986 earthquake, Tony thought it was time for an update and completely renovated both buildings, cornering off our best-selling section of succulents which has remained open ever since! By2003 Tony’s son Frank joined his father in the business alongside current greenhouse manager Dick McTevia. Frank, Dick and Esther De Paris own Sloat Garden Center today and are continuing to maintain its reputation for superior customer service and quality plants.
